FAQ
The Plans
What's included in the PDF plans (DD-001)?
Complete, dimensioned drawings for all 13 parts of the Double Desk™, plus step-by-step assembly instructions with supporting notes. Everything you need to build one desk from scratch in your own shop. Delivered as a single PDF instantly after purchase.
What's included in the CAD files (DD-002)?
SVG and DXF files for all parts, optimized for CNC routing and ready to feed directly to your machine — no manual drafting required. Delivered as a ZIP file instantly after purchase.
How does digital delivery work?
The moment your payment is confirmed, you'll receive an email with a download link. Click it, download your file or ZIP, and you're ready to build. No waiting, no shipping, no account required.
Can I get a refund on a digital product?
Because digital files are delivered instantly and cannot be returned, we don't offer refunds after download. If you have questions about which plan is right for you before purchasing, reach out — we're happy to help you choose.
Building It
What tools do I need?
For a standard shop build using the PDF plans: a table saw, drill, jigsaw, tape measure, straight edge, and sandpaper. If you're using the CNC files (DD-002), your router handles the cutting — you'll still need basic finishing tools for sanding and finishing.
What skill level is required?
Intermediate experience is helpful — you'll be making accurate cuts and working with simple joinery. That said, experienced beginners have built this desk successfully. If you're comfortable with a table saw and reading dimensional drawings, you're ready.
What wood should I use?
The original was built from plywood, and we recommend the same: 3/4 inch Baltic birch, A/B, B/B, or B/C grade depending on your preferred finish. One 4x8 sheet is all you need for the entire desk.
What are the desk dimensions?
The Double Desk™ stands approximately 24 inches tall, 48 inches wide, and 24 inches deep. The seats are fixed 12 inches off the floor — sized specifically for small children.
What finish should I use?
We recommend ECOS Paints — a zero-VOC, non-toxic finish that's genuinely safe for children. Stain and oil finishes also look beautiful on Baltic birch. The desk can also be finished with whiteboard or chalkboard vinyl, or painted with any child-safe latex paint.
Safety & Use
Is this desk safe for toddlers?
Yes. There are no moving parts, no tipping chairs, and no small components. The fixed seats are low to the ground and stable. The design was created with toddler safety in mind and has been used safely across three generations of children. It supports up to 70 lbs.
What ages is the Double Desk™ designed for?
The desk is designed for children from toddler age through about 8. The seats sit exactly 12 inches from the floor — proportioned for small bodies — and the structure is stable enough that toddlers can lean, reach, and move without tipping it.
Can the desk be disassembled for storage?
Yes. The Double Desk™ assembles like a 3D puzzle and comes apart in about a minute. Fully disassembled, it stores flat — it slides under a bed or into a closet with ease. Many families assemble it, love how it looks, and leave it up permanently.
Licensing & Selling
Can I build this desk to sell?
Yes — with the appropriate license. DD-001 (PDF) and DD-002 (CAD) are for personal use only. If you want to build and sell Double Desks™, you'll need DD-003 (up to 25 units) or DD-004 (up to 500 units). For large commercial volumes, contact us about DD-005.
What's the difference between DD-003 and DD-004?
DD-003 is the Small Volume Creator License — PDF plans with a license to build and sell up to 25 desks. DD-004 is the Medium Volume Creator License — CNC-ready CAD files with a license to sell up to 500 units. DD-004 is built for shops that want machine-cut precision at production volume.
What is the Commercial License (DD-005)?
For builders or businesses that need more than 500 units, or who want to explore retail partnerships and custom licensing. There's no fixed price — reach out through our Contact page and we'll build something that works for your situation and volume.
