A Desk You Can Build in a Weekend — Designed Before Your Parents Were Born
Welcome to Heirloom Play. I'm Darin Ward, and the short version of why this place exists goes something like this: my grandfather built a desk in 1953, I rediscovered it in my garage decades later, and I could not stop thinking about how good it was.
The longer version is more interesting — and you can read it over at the family behind the desk. But right now, let me tell you what Heirloom Play is, who it's for, and why I think you're going to like it here.
What We Sell (and What We Don't)
Heirloom Play is a digital plans shop. We don't ship furniture. We don't sell kits. We sell the plans — clean, precise, builder-ready drawings and CAD files — so that you can build something with your own hands, out of materials you choose, for a child you love.
The anchor product is the Double Desk. It's a two-sided kids' desk that seats two children facing each other, designed for ages one through six. It breaks down for storage and transport. It's built from a single 4×8 sheet of ¾-inch furniture-grade plywood, which means one reasonable trip to the home center, one manageable sheet, and one very satisfying weekend project.
These are genuine children's wooden desk plans for the DIY builder — not a furniture catalog, not a flat-pack kit. The plans come as a PDF drawing set (DD-001, $39.99) or a full CAD file package (DD-002, $59.99) depending on how deep you want to go.
Who This Is For
If you've ever wanted to build something for a kid but weren't sure where to start, this is for you. The Double Desk is a solid beginner woodworking project for kids furniture — the joinery is straightforward, the material list is short, and the result is something that will outlast the plastic stuff by a decade at minimum.
If you're an experienced woodworker, you'll appreciate that the design doesn't talk down to you. The plans are clean. The tolerances are real. My son — who handles the CAD drawings — comes from a design background, and it shows.

Our Creed — Short Version
Every product we release has to clear a simple bar: it must be safe, it must be interesting, and it must actually work. That's it. We're not here to fill the internet with mediocre content or churn out plans that look good in a thumbnail and fall apart in the shop. If we put our name on it, we've built it ourselves first.
Safety isn't an afterthought here. The Double Desk uses no hardware that a toddler could mouth or pry loose. The joinery is solid. The paint recommendations we make — and we do make specific recommendations — are zero VOC and genuinely non-toxic.
